How GuardOn Installation Works, Step by Step
Buying a security device is one decision. Getting it properly fitted is the one that actually determines whether it works when you need it to. Here's exactly what happens with GuardOn, from booking through to your first alert landing on your phone.
Choosing the right product first
Which installation you get depends on which product you've chosen. EasyTrack is designed for simple self-install, so if that's your product, there's no technician appointment to book at all, you fit it yourself in minutes. Guardian and Phantom Guard both include free professional installation, since a hidden tracker or a Ghost Immobiliser needs to be wired into the vehicle properly to work as intended. The rest of this guide covers what that professional installation looks like.
Booking a slot
Installation is free with every GuardOn product, and it's built around your schedule rather than the other way round. You choose a time and a location that suits you, home, work, or wherever the car normally sits, and a certified technician comes to you. There's no need to book a garage slot or lose a day off work to get it done.
The appointment itself
Most installations take under two hours. During that time, the technician fits the device out of sight, wiring it into the vehicle so it works quietly in the background without anything visible left behind. For products that include a Ghost Immobiliser, this also means setting up the hidden PIN sequence using controls already in your car, so nothing extra needs to be carried or remembered.
You don't need to prepare anything specific beforehand. Just have the vehicle available at the agreed time and location, and the technician handles the rest.
What the technician checks before finishing
Before the appointment wraps up, the technician confirms the device is correctly wired in, sending and receiving data as expected, and that nothing about how the car drives or starts has changed unexpectedly. The whole point of a professional fit is that you shouldn't notice anything different about daily driving, only that the protection is now there.
Setting up the app
Once the hardware side is done, the next step is pairing it with the GuardOn app on your phone. This is where you'll see live location, journey history, and set up the alerts that matter to you, geofence boundaries, movement notifications and tamper warnings. It only takes a few minutes, and the technician can walk you through it on the spot if it's your first time.
If you have questions on the day
It's a normal appointment, not a one-way process. If you want to understand where the device has been fitted, how the PIN sequence works, or anything else about the setup, the technician is there to answer it on the spot. Most people find it useful to actually watch the app get set up rather than doing it alone afterwards, so don't feel like you need to rush off while it's happening.
When the device goes live
The device is activated at the end of installation, not at the point of purchase. That means your 12 month warranty and your £7.50 a month subscription both start from the day it's actually fitted and switched on, not from whenever you happened to buy it. You're not paying for protection before it exists.
After installation
From that point, the system runs in the background. You'll get an alert if something needs your attention, and otherwise there's nothing to manage day to day. If you ever change vehicles, some GuardOn devices are transferable, so it's worth checking what applies to your specific product before you sell or swap the car.
That's the whole process: book a convenient slot, a technician fits it in around two hours, the app gets set up, and protection starts from that day. No garage visit, no waiting around, no guesswork about whether it's working.
